Big Bug Hunt Privacy Policy

The BigBugHunt.com website is an international project run by Growing Interactive Ltd, based in the UK and covered by UK Data Protection law.

Security

Growing Interactive Ltd takes every reasonable precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit a report via the Big Bug Hunt website, their information is protected both online and offline. All of our users' information is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The servers that store personally identifiable information are in a secure environment.

Location

The Big Bug Hunt collects location information in the form of longitude, latitude and country for each bug report which is submitted. Although stored on our systems as a specific location, the data will only be presented visually on maps or in other reporting formats in aggregate with locations rounded up or down to the nearest reporting point (normally a 5km grid or larger) so that reports cannot be individually identified. We treat location data with the same level of security as other personally identifiable items such as email address.

Third Party Access to Personal Information

Growing Interactive Ltd does not pass user-related data to any third party except where necessary for the fulfilment of our business obligations and only where an equally strict privacy policy is in effect. As the Big Bug Hunt is a collaboration between Growing Interactive Ltd and York University, anonymised data will also be handled by select researchers at the University of York in order to identify trends in pest emergence. No personally-identifiable information will be handled by the University researchers.

Legal Disclaimer

Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy and keep your data from being passed on to other third parties, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our company or website.

Log Files

Like most standard website servers we use log files. This may include any or all of the following: internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyse trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

Links

The BigBugHunt.com website may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we, Growing Interactive Ltd, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by the BigBugHunt.com website.

Notification of Changes

If we need to change the privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement on this site and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected (which may differ if you sign up for one of our services on another website).
